Why Tanzania

The combination of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and the private conservancies that surround them produces a wildlife experience that no other country matches: the highest density of large predators on the continent, the largest mammal migration on earth, and landscapes of such variety and beauty that a single visit feels like the beginning of a longer conversation.
What makes Tanzania different from its neighbours is the model. The national parks are genuinely protected — no mining, no settlement, no opportunistic development. The private conservancy model adjacent to the national parks means that there are places within a few hours' drive of the most famous wildlife areas where you will see no other vehicles at all. Arrival in Arusha
Don Kassim or a senior Bobby Safaris guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport. The drive to your Arusha lodge is an introduction to Tanzania — Mount Meru to the west, the Maasai steppe to the east, the first sense of the landscape you have come to experience. Evening briefing over dinner.

Tarangire National Park
Morning departure for Tarangire — the most intimate of the northern circuit parks, and often the most unexpectedly romantic. Ancient baobab landscapes, large elephant herds, and a quieter, more unhurried quality than the better-known northern parks. Afternoon game drive with your private guide.

Tarangire to Ngorongoro
Morning game drive in Tarangire, then the scenic drive to Ngorongoro Crater. You ascend to the rim as the afternoon light softens, and check into a luxury lodge perched on the crater's edge — one of the finest settings in Africa. Dinner with a view of the caldera below.

Ngorongoro Crater Descent
The private descent into the crater at dawn, in your own vehicle, with a guide who knows the crater floor intimately. 600 metres below the rim, 25 kilometres across, and holding one of the highest wildlife densities on earth. Rhino, lion, elephant, hippo — the Big Five in a single morning is entirely possible here.

Serengeti — Central Valley
Morning drive from Ngorongoro to the Seronera Valley in the central Serengeti — the heart of the park and the best area for resident wildlife year-round. Leopards in the sausage trees, lion prides on the open plains, cheetah on the eastern plains. You arrive at your luxury camp in time for an afternoon drive.

Full Day in the Serengeti
A full day in the Serengeti — dawn to dusk in the bush with your private guide. The Serengeti reveals itself differently at different times of day: the morning cool, the midday stillness, the extraordinary light of late afternoon. Your guide reads the landscape and positions you accordingly. You stay as long as the sighting deserves.

Northern Serengeti — Migration Country
For guests visiting from July through October, the drive north to the Mara River area is essential. This is where the Great Migration performs its most dramatic act: the river crossings. The columns of wildebeest, the crocodiles waiting below, the chaos and drama that justifies the journey on its own. For guests visiting outside the Migration season, the northern Serengeti offers a different kind of solitude — and some of the best leopard and lion viewing in Africa.

Departure or Continuation
One final sunrise drive, or a morning charter flight out. For guests continuing to Zanzibar, the transition is seamless — a ninety-minute flight to Stone Town, then a drive to your beach retreat. For those departing, you leave with something that no photograph captures fully: the knowledge of what it feels like to move through that landscape with someone who knows it as well as his own land.
