Safari Cost Guide

What Does a Luxury Tanzania Safari Cost?

Honest, specific price ranges for 2026 β€” with the factors that actually drive the cost, and what you are actually paying for at each tier.

Most published safari prices are misleading β€” they are starting points, promotional rates, or per-day figures that do not reflect the total cost of a real itinerary. This page gives you the honest numbers: what a genuine luxury Tanzania safari actually costs in 2026, across the different tiers, seasons, and itinerary lengths. All figures are per person for two people sharing, including everything on the ground.

2026 Safari Cost by Tier

These ranges represent what two people actually pay for a private 10-day northern circuit safari (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire) including all on-ground costs. Per-person figures shown; multiply by two for the total couple cost.

Mid-range luxury

$8,000–$15,000 / person

Peak season: $12,000–$18,000 / person

Green season from

Green season: $6,000–$10,000 / person

Well-selected premium camps, professional senior guide, private vehicle. Excellent wildlife access, genuine quality. At this tier, operators typically manage multiple groups simultaneously and use contracted camp portfolios assembled for volume pricing.

Best for: Couples and small groups prioritising wildlife quality over exclusive positioning.

High luxury

$15,000–$25,000 / person

Peak season: $20,000–$30,000 / person

Green season from

Green season: $10,000–$16,000 / person

Superior camps in their class, experienced senior guide, private vehicle. Better camp positioning, fewer vehicles at wildlife sightings, higher service ratios. The guide has 15-20 years of field experience and is assigned to your itinerary specifically.

Best for: Travellers who have done a standard safari and want a materially better experience.

Ultra-luxury

$25,000–$45,000+ / person

Peak season: $35,000–$55,000+ / person

Green season from

Green season: $18,000–$28,000 / person

The finest camps in their class β€” smaller, more exclusive, with exceptional positioning. A senior guide with 20-30 years of field experience, personally known to Don Kassim. Exclusive conservancy access. Private dining. Bespoke logistics throughout.

Best for: Travellers for whom this is the definitive trip, and who want the experience to reflect that.

All ranges are for two people, 10-day peak season safari. Green season reduces costs by 20-35% at comparable quality. Solo travellers pay a premium of approximately 30-40% over the per-person rate shown.

What Actually Drives the Cost

Understanding what you are paying for makes the cost easier to justify β€” and makes it easier to decide where to invest and where to be judicious.

The camps

This is the largest single cost driver. The difference between a good camp and the finest camp in its class β€” in positioning, exclusivity, service ratio, and design β€” is significant. Fine camps charge more because their costs are higher: smaller properties, more staff per guest, better locations. Don Kassim will explain the actual trade-offs between camps at different price points for your specific dates.

The guide

A senior Tanzanian guide with 20-30 years of experience commands a salary that reflects their field knowledge. A field trainee with two years of experience costs a fraction as much. At Bobby Safaris, the guide you speak with before departure is the guide who meets you in Tanzania. This is not the industry norm β€” most operators assign guides after booking. The guide continuity and seniority is a genuine cost differentiator.

The vehicle

A private, well-maintained 4x4 Land Cruiser with pop-top roof and individual seats is a real operating cost. Lower-priced operators run vehicles that are older, less comfortable, and less reliable. Breakdowns in remote Tanzania are not just inconvenient β€” they can be dangerous. The vehicle is not where Don Kassim cuts costs.

Park and conservancy fees

Tanzania National Parks fees are set by the Tanzanian government and are not negotiable. For a 10-day northern circuit, park fees alone accumulate to $1,500–$2,500 per person. Conservancy fees β€” for access to the private wildlife areas that make Tanzania's ultra-luxury model possible β€” add further cost. These are included transparently in your quote and are not a hidden extra.

Internal flights

Moving between Arusha, the Serengeti, and Zanzibar requires domestic flights. These are charged at published airline rates and included in your quote. The alternative β€” long road transfers β€” would add days to the itinerary without improving the experience.

A premium luxury camp in Tanzania β€” part of the experience, not just a place to sleep

The camps Don Kassim recommends are selected for what they add to the experience β€” not simply for their star rating

How Season Affects Cost

The single most significant variable in safari pricing is season. View our full pricing guide β€” Tanzania operates two pricing windows:

  • β€’
Peak season (August through October, January through February): Premium pricing reflects the highest wildlife density β€” the Great Migration in the northern Serengeti from July through October, the calving season in Ndutu in January and February. Book 10-12 months in advance for the finest camps and guides.
  • β€’
Green season (November through May, excluding December): Dramatically lower camp rates β€” often 20-35% below peak at the same property. The wildlife remains excellent: April and May deliver spectacular green landscapes, baby animals, and the best birding of the year. Vehicle density in the parks is a fraction of peak season. December festive season pricing applies even though the wildlife is good.

For guests with flexibility in their travel dates, green season offers the best value in Tanzania. See the full month-by-month guide β†’
